  •                  Green Communities Canada   Active & Safe Routes to School

Do your children walk or bike to school or their bus stop?  Or have you noticed a high volume of vehicular traffic at your children’s school?  Walking and biking to and from school is a great way for students to be physically active, and decrease the number of vehicles at your children’s school.

There are many organizations and movements that promote active student transportation, such as Active & Safe Routes to School and Green Communities Canada.  Click on the link www.saferoutestoschool.ca to explore their website and uncover the many benefits of active and safe student transportation, and how you can get your community involved!

     Are You A Distracted Driver?

Do you use hand-held communication devices to dial, talk, text or email while driving? Do you use hand-held entertainment devices?  If your answer was yes to any of the above, YOU are a DISTRACTED DRIVER!  According to the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, “drivers who use cell phones are four times more likely to be in a collision than a driver who is focused on the road”.

We encourage you to explore the Ministry of Transportation’s following link to become informed about the dangers and repercussions of distracted driving: http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/safety/distracted-driving/index.shtml
